BIM in Revit – My experience
I work as a Revit BIM specialist in a structural engineering company in Bratislava. My main task is close communication, coordination and optimization of given projects for English and Slovak companies. I’ve worked on many projects, where the main goal was structural analysis of buildings. I’ve gained also international experience with design and overall construction of the building. For more than a year and a half I have been involved in the multifunctional City North building in London, which, with its complexity and difficulty, is a very interesting project. I am currently working on completing Revit formwork plans for Sky Park IV and New Generation Hospital in Bratislava.
In my current cooperation with Revit, I’ve met all kind of models. From the render of small house, through the creation of various types of furniture, to complex BIM modeling and optimization of multifunctional building. For more information about the projects please go here.
Of course, the final look of the model also depends on the client’s requirements. Sometimes it’s for architectural purposes, sometimes for the relevant structural engineering. It’s also no problem to work with all kinds of materials in Revit.
Revit also offers Revit Family, which can create various parametric models. What it means in practice is that after changing for example some basic input values, it will also change entirely model shape. For example, a staircase created as a Revit Family, after adjusting height of staircase, it will automatically calculate and change each stair step to your requirments.
Why I’m doing BIM in Revit
The BIM shortcut can be defined in various ways, but thr best descriptions is BIM is virtual 3D model as the central model for all professions. Therefore, with precise execution, all parties can better coordinate with each other and eventually incorporate changes more quickly. A BIM model is also a collection of different virtual parts of a building and construction objects that are not only defined by dimensions and weight, but also by physical or logical properties. When working with Revit, this kind of 3D modeling is obvious. This allows for better coordination and cooperation with other professions, while improving control and accelerating the possibility of collision detection. In the case of additional changes, is necessary only the modification at a particular location in the structure and it will automatically be reflected in the entire documentation, such as floor plans, views, sections, reports, etc.
Of course, the price will be determined by mutual agreement and will depend on the complexity of the construction and time consuming.
